We are a BBB Accredited Business
What is a BBB Accredited Business?
It’s the new term for a BBB member — now we are a BBB Accredited Business. The new term provides a clear title for businesses meeting or exceeding all BBB standards of membership. It tells consumers that together we keep our promises and uphold a standard for trust.
In fact, according to a recent “Accreditation Survey of Consumers and Business Leaders” sponsored by the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the term “accreditation” drives more customers to consider using a company than the old “membership” term. Seven in 10 customers noted that they will be more likely to buy from a company designated a “BBB Accredited Business.”
What does BBB Accredited Business mean? Let’s break it down, beginning with the word ‘accredit.’
ac·cred·it function: transitive verb
1: to give official authorization to or approval of:
a) to authorize, [Webster’s New World Dictionary]
b) to make authoritative, creditable, or reputable; sanction [Dictionary.com]
c) to provide with credentials; especially to send (an envoy) with letters of authorization [Webster’s New World Dictionary]
d) to recognize or vouch for as confirming with a standard [Merriam Webster Online]
2: to believe in, to trust [Webster’s New World Dictionary]
3: to consider or recognize as outstanding [Merriam Webster Online]
Quite simply, the term “BBB Accredited Business” does a better job of defining the commitment we have made to marketplace trust and standards than the word “member” alone. The accredited business concept better conveys to the public that the BBB is a standards setting organization, and that its members have committed to standards. It is a concept that will be utilized to promote BBB members to the public.
BBB Accreditation is an honor and not every company is eligible. The BBB only accredits businesses that pass a strict review process – every BBB Accredited Business is evaluated in light of BBB standards prior to acceptance.
Standards only matter if they are enforced, and the BBB enforces the standards for the good of the consumer and other BBB Accredited Businesses. It is important to all of us that the good name of the BBB remains untarnished. Every BBB Accredited Business is monitored for continuing adherence to BBB standards and reaffirms their commitment to those standards each year.
Accreditation can be withdrawn at any time for failure to maintain BBB standards.
When the BBB tells customers to Start With Trust, the BBB is telling them to look for BBB Accredited Businesses just like yours.
