Trim Levels (Exterior)

Starting in 2020, there are two main trim models that have the option of an electric, coupe, or cabriolet option on the S560. With 2021 came two new trim options, with the S500 and S580 sedans. 2022 did away with the S560 model and has two main trim options, the S500 and S580. Mercedes offers each model in a variety of eye-catching colors, including black, Rubellite Red, Kalahari Gold, and Selenite Grey Magno. Exterior upgrade features among all three years often include a rear spoiler, wheel locks, or 20-inch Y-multispoke wheels.

Engine (Power)

Each year, drivers had the option to choose between a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine or a 4.0-liter V-8 biturbo engine. The inline-six engineer can generate between 362 and 429 horsepower, depending on which model year you choose. The powerful V-8 engine can produce between 463 and 496 horsepower, which also depends on the model year you want. No matter which engine you choose, you can count on the S-class to get you to freeway speeds in under 5.4 seconds, with the new S580 capable of getting you there in under 4.5 seconds.

Performance

No matter the year, the S-class optimizes its fuel usage to outperform many of its competitors. The 2020 base model gets a 28 mpg fuel efficiency rating on the highway with the powerful V-8 getting a highway rating of 24 mpg. Moving onto 2021, the S580 gets a highway fuel rating of 24 mpg with the smaller inline-six engine getting 29 mpg on the highway.

The 2022 model tops fuel efficiency with the S500 inline-six engine getting 30 mpg on the highway and the S580 getting 25 mpg on the highway with the V-8 engine. Topping fuel efficiency for each model year is the hybrid S-class, which can get a combined fuel efficiency rating of 64 mpg using gas and electric power.

Interior

Luxury is what Mercedes represents, and each S-class is the top tier of luxury. The 2020 model offers a number of custom options for leaders, woods, and intricate seat stitching. It even has the option to upgrade to massage seats for the front and rear outboard chairs, meaning everyone can ride in comfort. Interior updates for the 2021 and 2022 models include screens galore with a digital gauge cluster and a large infotainment center.
